Marie Denward is a senior researcher in media and communication. Her research interest is within pervasive games. With an ethnographic approach she studied the design, implementation and production process of a novel transmedia storytelling production, the pervasive game Sanningen om Marika. She analysed how participation was designed and crafted and how this affected the outcome, including the opportunities and obstacles for participation. She also addressed the user reactions and interpretations.

She has worked with the Interactive Institute since 2001. During 2001-2005 she started up and headed a research group for the institute in Southern Sweden (Växjö). 2006 she started her PhD studies at the School of Arts and Communication (K3), Faculty of Culture and Society, Malmö University. During 2009/2010 she spent 6 months at the faculty of Creative industries, Queensland University of Technology, Australia. She completed her dissertation in October 2011.

She holds a B. Soc.Science. and a M.A Art & Craft. Her working experience includes building engineering and fifteen years of teaching and lecturing in the educational field nationally and internationally. 1990-93 she worked as an aid worker in Southern Africa and still has an interest in the developmental area.

Her spare time is preferably spent on her NF sailing boat in the Stockholm Archipelago.
